| going a little crazy over here... |
[16 Nov 2009|09:00pm] |
okay.
so.
let me get this straight. Dvorak in his early days taught piano lessons.
he fell in love with one of his students, Josephine. she didn't love him back (who would? creeper teacher!)
so he married HER SISTER. ... everyone is okay with his?
but wait - there's MORE!
Dvorak's daughter, Otilie, married his STUDENT. (that's a little less creepy, but still pretty weird...)
and that student... drumroll please.... was JOSEF SUK.
... and everyone is okay with all this??
it's a small world after all...
---------------
also I would like to point something out.
Mahler was born in 1860.
He had his first conducting job in 1880.
He was twenty years old.
i am twenty years old.
what am i doing with my life? nothing.
stupid mahler.
although it must have sucked for him to be jewish and surrounded by fellow peers and friendsies who were obsessed with Wagner, when Wagner was such a flaming anti-semite... sadness.
also, Mahler was all depressed in 1910 so he went and had a psychoanalysis session with, get this, SIGMUND FREUD. now we all know freud's a phony BUT STILL HOW COOL IS THAT?!?
----
okay back to the paper now...

i miss writing. i really miss writing sometimes.
i'm sitting here in the filene music office. technically i finished work at 4, but i'm being lazy and it is so so rainy outside and i don't wanna go cause it's so dark and dreary looking.
god, why is november so boring?
so what have i done today? woke up with brett in his room, messed around for a bit, went back to my house and showered and got ready and stuff and then it was time to work. yesterday/last night was productive/fun. i had stats class followed by a viola lesson followed immediately by a two-hour composition session with my violin + viola and a piano, that was lovely. i really really like this piece i've been working on. really proud of how it's turning out. really excited to see how it turns out and where it goes next. and then after that was a FOUR HOUR library session... and by that time it was ten p.m and they kicked us out of the library so i went home and heated up some lasagna and it was delicious and i played for a bit with sarah + brie and their adorable drunkity drunk friend. and then close to midnight i wandered over to cailin's house and played with those guys!
aaanddd. before that. this week was ehhhh. i was sick sunday-monday-tuesday so i've been struggling to catch up in all my work. just finished one paper (personality) and i have TWO more due monday! yikes!!!
god, my life is so boring. so jam-packed, so busy, so much to do but it's all so superficial. you know? planned and plotted.
i really, really miss adventuring. i miss wandering and meeting strangers and those one-time but lasting conversations and making friends and seeing things and discovering things and wandering in a city and being outside and being outside at night... I CAN'T WAIT TO GO TO AUSTRALIA.
eeeeeeeeeee. okay i should get out of here now :-D

“I knew that we counted little in comparison with the universe, I knew that we were nothing; but to be so immeasurably nothing seems in some way both to overwhelm and at the same time to reassure… Is there anything whatsoever to which we can cling? Amid that chaos of illusions into which we are cast headlong, there is one thing that stands out as true, and that is -- love. All the rest is nothingness, an empty void. We peer down into a huge dark abyss. And we are afraid.” - julian green
don't you see? of everything that is, you're afraid to love? it's one thing to fear separation, or insignificance or change or pain... but to fear love itself... the one thing that is REAL, that everyone can feel, that everyone knows... how could you be afraid to love?
(i wish i could say this to you...)
-------------------------------------------
i also really like this...
"Most of us can observe at least moments of our own spontaneity which are at the same time moments of genuine happiness. Whether it be the fresh and spontaneous perception of a landscape, or the dawning of some truth as the result of our thinking, or a sensuous pleasure that is not stereotyped, or the welling up of love for another person - in these moments we all know what a spontaneous act is and may have some vision of what human life could be if these experiences were not such rare and uncultivated occurences." - erich fromm

| last saturday night |
[10 Nov 2009|04:26pm] |
so. last saturday night it was jeff's birthday so we went out for hibachi and then came back to campus and got drunk. and i got really, really drunk. like - it's beyond a miracle that i didn't black out and/or die. after all the twenty-one year olds went downtown ali was all like, oh wow peri you have got to get home. so she started walking me back to pine and we passed birch and i got really excited cause chris weigl was in there and he and i have been trying to hang out lately so i yelled until he came outside and it was really awesome to see him but ali was all like haha, sorry chris, peri is really drunk, i have to take her home. and she dragged me on and i was sad but then we started talking to these other people and i got all excited cause, you know, new friends! new stories! things to talk about! ooh boy! but ali was like, sorry random people peri is really drunk and i have to take her home.
so finally we got to pine and we went upstairs and ali put me in my room and closed the door behind me and i thought that if she really cared about how drunk i was she wouldn't have left me alone in my room so then obviously i'm not that drunk so i went back outside. mind you, without my sweater - so in only a tank top and a very light jacket and it was a VERY cold night. which i couldn't tell at the time. so i started to walk up to maple, and i took a wrong turn and got very very confused. i knew that i had to know where i was because its literally a twenty-second walk from pine to maple and i do it a million times a day and i didn't go too far so what the hell? and then i realized that i knew exactly where i was but that i was at a completely different angle then the one that i am used to. so i found the right angle and made it up to maple in about five seconds. pretty epic at the time.
dan and anna were the only ones home and i didn't want to bother them or keep them from their sexy time but they came out and played with me and they were SO WONDERFUL. they were showing me all this cool dancing stuff and we were talking about crazy things and then we went into the kitchen, which was cool, and anna gave me water and wrote LOVEJUICE on the bottle cause she's soooo amazing. and i wrote on their whiteboard.
eventually, i left maple and headed over to northwoods. ran into some strangers and started talking to them. this one guy's name was arthur, and i showed him my love juice that anna gave me and he said he went to monroe-woodbury and i was like whoa that's where sam went so i called sam to ask him if he knew arthur and when sam answered the phone i realized that i did not like him and didn't want to talk to him so i told him so and hung up. and that's when arthur grabbed my boob. for reals. this kid who's name might not even be arthur who i had never met before grabbed my boob. like, really? who does that?
so i ditched the boob-honker and walked towards cane and ran into brett + hussey. i showed them my lovejuice that anna gave me but they were both stoned and boring, so i kind of just followed them back to maple. but then i started talking to some kid who was outside maple d where there was a party going on, and then toby showed up and i told him about the lovejuice that anna gave me and he thought it was awesome and he took me into the party. this was the point in the drunk where the lights were all funny and i couldn't really focus on people's faces too well. also i was mad that brett + hussey had "ditched" me (when in reality i had ditched them) so after a while i left and went to maplea and i went into brett's room and took off my pants cause they were uncomfortable and then i got really really really dizzy so i went to bother brett who was in the bathroom brushing his teeth and i wanted to sit so i sat down in the tub.... aaand things went downhill from there....
but still.. it was the closest to adventuring that i've done in a while, which i guess is REALLY sad.
i'm definitely not going to be drinking that much for a while though.... or ever again... maybe...
:-P

okay, so i'm sure you've all heard the song The Sorcerer's Apprentice, by Paul Dukas (1865 - 1935). It's the one from Fantasia, where Mickey Mouse steals the sorcerer's magic hat and fights off all the broomsticks... yeah now you know that one.
anyways, dukas is jokingly referred in the music dork's world as the original one hit wonder. no one really knows anything else by him, and even though people do often know/recognize the sorcerer's apprentice, they don't know it's him.
well... i was browsing around at the library a couple of days ago, looking for a Brahms piano/string quartet that's to die for.
and i found a CD with a Dukas on it. ANNNND... drumroll please. the piece is called La Peri!
YES REALLY! Dukas - La Peri
the cd insert reads:
"advised by the Magi, Prince Iskender scours Persia in search of the Flower of Immortality. He ultimately finds it in Hormuz, concealed in the corsage of a sleeping fairy, the Peri, from whom he steals it. The fairy awakens and launches into a seductive dance which makes Iskender return the flower to her. She dissapears, while the Prince feels like his own death is near."
" the first theme with its dotted rhythm would seem to represent Iskender, while the second, stated by cor anglais, french horns and violas, could conjur up the Peri..."
"but once the Flower is restored to the Peri, she disappears, and with her, her theme, which fades away, leaving Iskender's theme to bring the piece to its close."
HOW COOL IS THAT?!?

also -

okay, so saturday night (october 3rd <3) we ended up not being able to get tickets to Super Mash Bros - how dreadful. then again, we didn't try very hard. so instead of going to see SMB we just spoked up (yes, spoked), watched the Super Smash Bros movie (omg, it's amazing, everyone has to see it!) and then back to pine c (my houseee!) and played apples to apples. (me, lizzie, hussey, brett, annie, anna + dan, all juniors) ... and then a bunch of people showed up = jeff, adam, sam, cailin, laura, tara with their senior friends - and then aaron, keith, kerry, blair, and their sophomore friends showed up > and then it was a party!
at some point in the night, we decided to head to cailin's house. but there were still all those sohpmores playing pong in our 'dining room' - so the seniors all left and us juniors waited around a bit until the pong game was finished. (girls vs boys, the girls were decimated) then we all gathered up to leave, we were out the door and outside when we hear kat yelling from a distance GET BACK INSIDE!
turns out that the super mash bros were taken to some after-party after their show. and apparently they were having a pretty miserable time... and kat + ali + katie knew that were we having a gathering at pine... so they came to pine c! and partied at our house! with us <3
it was pretty exciting. the house was suddenly packed, and there were dozens of people we did not know at all. all these slutty girls throwing themselves at the two SM bros. all these guys pissing their pants. but overall, the boys were pretty cool. mostly awkward. very dorky. not cute :-( one guy is named dick, the other... i forgot. they were both very nice. i actually first spoke to (i consider them the purple one, and the yellow one) the purple one, dick, by accident at first. commenting on how strange it was to have all these people i didn't know in my house so unexpectedly. and then he responded that that was probably his fault, and he was sorry. and i felt like a douche. especially cause i didn't even go to their show. oh well.
we gave them freeze pops (a pine c staple) and they twittered about it. :-)

also, i had a long lovely moment outside on the back porch with everett and andy letwin and amber. a very random foursome. but we had a massage competition and took tons of pictures and it was awesome. i love people.
and what was also cool was being outside and hearing SUPER MASH BROS AT PINE C being yelled out every so often. made me feel cool :-)
so the yellow one ended up leaving with some girl - whooooooo! but the purple one stayed and chilled with us until about 4 in the morning, after most of the random party people had left. it was kind of awkward, cause me, brett, ali, mike cass and sarah were pretty much all falling asleep. (half the housemates had gone to sleep already) but it was also really nice, we were all just talked. the purple one and i had a pretty sweet conversation about our porn collage. and about college in general. (turns out he went to high school with danl, who i went to london with freshman year! whoa!)
also - another WHAT THE FUCK SMALL WORLD MOMENT Danny, Brett's adorable friend from home, - he and i have been getting really close lately > spent the ENTIRE night with Clint, who is still in high school but was visiting his sister KATE (who i also went to london with) > but clint + i go way back (thank you facebook!) so the fact that out of all the gay adorable boys here at skidmore clint ended up with danny (in our bathroom, lol) is just crazy. hello world.
yes. so mike cass and dick, the purple SMbro left at around 4 am. to go find the yellow one and catch a cab to the airport. succcksss.
and then brett + i crawled into bed and had awesome fantastic mind-blowing sex.
so all in all, a very good night.
love, p
p.s. and the next day?
